Banco Bradesco is one of Brazil’s largest private financial groups, with operations across retail, corporate, wholesale, private banking, asset management, brokerage, and insurance. 

The bank built a scalable generative AI platform on Microsoft Azure Red Hat® OpenShift® to boost innovation while meeting strict regulatory requirements. The platform integrates multiple AI models and now supports more than 500 active generative AI initiatives. Using the platform, the bank can launch new generative AI projects faster, which help it achieve its business goals for greater efficiency, faster support, and more personalized customer services.

Challenge

Scaling generative AI in a regulated environment

As large financial organizations increase their adoption of generative AI, they need to ensure that their deployments are scalable, dependable, and aligned with strict governance and regulatory requirements, without slowing innovation or performance.

Banco Bradesco was keen to introduce strategic use of generative AI as part of a wider move to increase operational efficiency, offer customers faster issue resolution and personalization, and foster a stronger culture of innovation. It recognized the importance of embedding generative AI into its operations in a structured and controlled manner, supporting consistently high standards of quality and compliance while following best practices. 

To achieve its vision for generative AI, the bank needed a solution that could integrate diverse AI models from multiple vendors, orchestrate microservices at scale, and safeguard data governance—all without compromising performance or regulatory compliance. 

Solution

Integrating AI models with a single, unified platform across the business

Banco Bradesco developed a unified generative AI platform built on Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift, known as BRIDGE. The bank selected the Red Hat solution for the company’s recognized global expertise in container orchestration and automation, as well as the solution’s alignment with financial sector regulations.

Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift provides a scalable infrastructure to support AI adoption across the organization. With the solution, the bank can orchestrate containerized AI microservices with high availability and built-in security-focused features. BRIDGE supports generative AI for a range of use cases, from simple text generation to more advanced, multiagent systems.The platform integrates multiple AI models, including those from OpenAI, Google, and Meta, and connects with Azure OpenAI and other services. 

“The platform’s modular architecture allows business teams to create and manage AI agents with minimal technical complexity, accelerating adoption across the bank,” said Eudis Lanconi, Bridge Project Leader & Senior Cloud & AI Azure Specialist at Microsoft. “At the same time, it supports governance, regulatory compliance, and data management, meeting the strict requirements of the financial sector.”

The bank’s internal teams worked closely with Red Hat specialists to deliver the solution. This collaboration helped to accelerate implementation, embed best practices, and support compliance, resulting in a platform that combines innovation, agility, and control so Banco Bradesco can scale generative AI capabilities across its operations. “Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift is the backbone, connecting us to Azure OpenAI and other services and support from basic processes to multi-agent solutions. It is the platform that makes the BRIDGE solution possible,” said Phelipi Dal'Olio, Data Engineering Manager, Bradesco.

Business outcome

Supporting faster AI innovation

Banco Bradesco now has more than 500 active AI initiatives on the BRIDGE platform, serving business areas from operations and technology to customer services. The solution now supports 10-plus microservices and multiple large language models (LLMs), so developers can choose the most appropriate for each use case. "We needed to scale AI across the enterprise, but we couldn’t with the legacy environment and manual process. Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift enabled us to move fast and securely," said Dal'Olio.  

With BRIDGE, the bank has achieved a 10-fold reduction in AI solution integration cycles, resulting in a faster time to market for new features. It has also increased agility 10-fold in delivering informational agents, boosting automation and innovation at scale. 

The AI-powered solutions supported by BRIDGE are helping the bank to achieve key business goals in multiple ways. For example, these tools help deliver a 79% resolution rate in internal support, along with a 37% acceleration in development, a 64% increase in user story creation efficiency, and more than 1,000 automated code reviews each month.

More than 10 million customers have engaged across 25 million interactions using generative AI, achieving an 87% resolution rate.

“With its generative AI platform built on OpenShift, the bank has accelerated service delivery, modernized infrastructure, and increased agility while safeguarding compliance,” said Lanconi. “Banco Bradesco now delivers more personalized, scalable, and well-governed experiences, positioning itself as a pioneer in generative AI within the financial sector.”
