On June 30, 2024, CentOS Linux 7 will reach End of Life (EOL), requiring users to migrate to a new operating system to continue receiving updates, security patches and new features. As this date rapidly approaches, determining a path for migration and the related scope will be key as companies work to accurately plan resources and completion dates.

It’s no secret that moving from one Linux distribution to another can be a complex task, but there are steps that can make the process and outcomes more predictable and reduce risk. For organizations who choose to migrate to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), you now have a simpler way to convert using an online service, which removes the need for additional infrastructure.

With a recent update to Red Hat Insights, CentOS Linux 7 users can now:

  1. Register CentOS Linux 7 systems to display in the Insights inventory list.
  2. Initiate a new pre-conversion task to analyze selected CentOS Linux 7 systems and receive remediation advice so you can proactively address issues that could complicate or prevent conversion to RHEL.
  3. Run a new conversion task after you resolve issues identified by the pre-conversion analysis to complete the conversion to RHEL.

Insights (long known for its powerful predictive analytics capabilities) is changing the game with new, simplified management capabilities that are more intuitive and accessible. Delivered as a service, Insights is designed to reduce complexity across the hybrid cloud by providing simplified experiences that go beyond analytics to make RHEL systems easier to manage and maintain both on-premises and in the cloud.

With these new conversion tasks, Red Hat continues to deliver on our vision to expand Insights beyond analytics to simplify Linux management, making RHEL even more accessible, manageable and maintainable wherever organizations operate.
