Information on health & safety

All attendees of Red Hat Summit 2022 will be required to show proof of full vaccination. Masks are encouraged but optional.

Please note that this list and all protocols are subject to change as the fluid COVID-19 situation changes.

Due to the evolving risks surrounding COVID-19 and its variants, Red Hat has made some changes to our requirements at events. Even though there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, we are hard at work creating policies that are intended to keep you as safe as possible. In a changing landscape, we will continue to alert you of COVID-19 protocol updates as policies rapidly adapt.

For Red Hat Summit 2022, Red Hat will require all participants (Red Hat associates, customers, partners, sponsors, speakers, vendors, and staff) of our in-person events to be fully vaccinated. Masks are encouraged but optional.

Before attending Red Hat Summit 2022, all individuals are encouraged to assess themselves on the following statements:

  • I have not had a COVID-19 diagnosis, and to the best of my knowledge, I have not been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 10 days.
  • I have not experienced the onset of any one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 10 days.
  • If I experience any symptoms associated with COVID-19 during Red Hat Summit 2022, I will immediately seek out appropriate medical care.
  • I will respect others’ comfort levels with respect to physical contact (e.g., handshakes).

Health & safety FAQs

What does fully vaccinated mean?

Red Hat will consider participants to be "fully vaccinated" when a person has received all recommended doses in their primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.

For Red Hat Summit 2022, this means:

  • Two weeks after receiving a single dose of a one-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) or
  • Two weeks after receiving the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca)

We will not admit individuals who are partially vaccinated or who are not yet 14 days out from their last shot.

Approved or authorized vaccines

This guidance applies to COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use and for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration (i.e., Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson (J&J)/Janssen COVID-19 vaccines), and COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (i.e., AstraZeneca/Oxford, Covishield, Sinopharm, and Sinovac), on or before February 15, 2022.

Red Hat Summit may expand the list of vaccines as prevailing public health guidance evolves. We will update this page with more details as the public health mandates change.

Boosters are encouraged but not required for attendance.

What can I show as proof of vaccination?

Participants are required to show proof of vaccination and a government-issued photo ID to enter the event. The following are acceptable forms of proof of full vaccination:

  • Government-issued or government-compliant digital vaccination verification app (such as Clear or VaxYes)
  • COVID-19 vaccination card, record, or certificate issued by a government agency, public health agency, or other authorized vaccine provider (a photo will also suffice). Photos and digital photocopies of vaccination cards are allowed.

Why are you requiring vaccines?

We want to protect our communities as best we can, based on the data we have. In order to best protect everyone’s health, we require that all participants be fully vaccinated. Boosters are encouraged but not required for attendance. Masks are encouraged but optional.

Even if I am fully vaccinated, will I need to receive one of the additional booster shots to attend?

Boosters are encouraged but not required for attendance.

Is requiring a vaccine legal?

Yes, requiring a vaccine does not violate HIPAA or discriminatory regulations.

Do I have to pay to have my vaccination status validated?

No, vaccination verification is being provided to Red Hat associates and participants at no cost.

Will you be sharing my vaccine status data with any government authorities?

Your information may be shared with necessary third parties to the extent required by local health requirements or regulations.

Are you requiring COVID-19 testing?

We will have testing onsite for those participants that require a COVID-19 test in order to meet return travel or airline requirements. Testing provider Med+ will be conducting testing at the Renaissance hotel on May 10-11 and the Westin Boston Seaport District hotel on May 12.

Follow this link to book an appointment and complete the form.

The only fields required to secure your testing appointment are date of birth, first name, last name and email. All other fields on the Med+ form are optional (including questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms). Optional fields may be left blank and are not compulsory to secure your appointment.

I am traveling internationally to the United States to attend Red Hat Summit 2022. Will you have COVID-19 testing onsite?

We will have testing onsite for those participants that require a COVID-19 test in order to meet travel or airline requirements. Please email our team for more information.

We encourage all international participants to check with their travel providers for any further specific testing requirements or regulations.

I already had COVID-19 and have the antibodies. Do I still need to show proof of vaccination?

Yes, proof of vaccination is still required in order to attend in person. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people who have already had COVID-19 receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Research has not yet shown how long an individual is protected from getting COVID-19 after recovering, and vaccination provides enhanced protection for those who have already had COVID-19.

If I have had close contact with a person with COVID-19 before traveling to Red Hat Summit 2022, can I attend?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or have reason to believe you currently have COVID-19, you should not attend Red Hat Summit 2022 in person. If you have reason to believe you have recently been exposed to COVID-19, please consult your physician to determine appropriate next steps and refer to CDC guidelines for international and domestic travel. We ask that you not attend Red Hat Summit 2022 if you are sick.

Please email our team to cancel your registration.

What happens if you find out that someone who was at Red Hat Summit 2022 tested positive for COVID-19 after the event?

We ask that anyone who participates in-person at Red Hat Summit 2022 and then tests positive for COVID-19 within 10 days alerts us by emailing our team.

What should I do if I notice someone at Red Hat Summit 2022 with visible symptoms?

We do not feel that having participants "report" participants with visible symptoms (which could also be allergies, a cold, etc.) comports with the spirit of Red Hat Summit 2022. We encourage our participants to show their regard for the safety of others by self-reporting any symptoms they themselves may have.

I have a medical or religious reason prohibiting me from receiving the vaccine and I want to attend Red Hat Summit 2022. What should I do?

Please email our team.

What if I have additional questions?

Red Hat will continue to update this website and provide additional communications to participants, so be sure to check back regularly. If you have additional questions, you can email our team.

If you are unable to join us in person, you can still join us for the Red Hat Summit 2022 virtual experience to view content on demand from anywhere across the globe. We hope to see you at a Red Hat event in the future.
