Hosted Control Planes for Red Hat OpenShift, based on the HyperShift upstream project, is a form factor of OpenShift designed to solve for multicluster deployment challenges. OpenShift's standalone architecture couples the control and data planes, which can result in increased costs and resource usage especially when deploying multiple clusters. In contrast, HCP is a re-architecture that decouples the control plane and the data plane aiming to reduce control-plane overhead leaving more room to run value-generating workloads. This decoupling results in multiple benefits such as trust segmentation, streamlined multicluster management, fast cluster provisioning, and more. This session will not only provide a succinct overview of HCP's capabilities, distinct personas, and the advantages of HyperShift but will also a live demo showcasing its core functionalities. In this talk I will present an overview of the current status of OpenShift Serverless and the upstream project Knative, its benefits and the use cases are usually good fits for serverless architectures. In the second part I shall discuss more generally where the “serverless journey” is likely to lead us in the years to come, from the public cloud to the edge.
