Today’s organizations are looking to accelerate application and service delivery and innovate faster to differentiate their businesses while empowering IT teams to support digital initiatives. Extending compute and storage power to the edge is key for organizations looking to act on data faster and scale infrastructure while also providing higher-quality experiences for latency-sensitive applications.

By placing IT resources in edge sites using Red Hat OpenStack Platform distributed compute nodes, organizations - specifically in the telco space - may offer a better quality of experience to customers through faster application processing. Additionally, the smaller OpenStack footprint can create a lower cost solution with consistent operations. In order to support the shift towards edge computing and open compute solutions, Red Hat Certification has developed the Preliminary Exam in Red Hat OpenStack Administration (PE110)

OpenStack skills validation for all experience levels

This preliminary exam allows you to evaluate your knowledge in managing cloud infrastructures using Red Hat OpenStack Platform. The skills tested in this exam are foundational for using OpenStack across its supported environments.

We recommend PE110 for experienced or novice system administrators who want to demonstrate their skills using the Red Hat OpenStack Platform. Additionally, students who have attended Red Hat OpenStack Administration I (CL110) and are on the path to becoming a Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) in Red Hat OpenStack Platform will also benefit from the hands-on, practical nature of the exam.

More ways to validate and certify online

Although preliminary exams are hands-on exams that test skills and knowledge of a subject area, these exams are designed to gauge skills and demonstrate progress toward proficiency for those on a learning path toward certification - not to result in certification. Red Hat currently offers preliminary exams in containers, Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift (PE180) and Linux system administration I (PE124).

Last month we launched remote certification exams that allow exam-takers to certify from anywhere. This marked  the first time that we have been able to deliver end-to-end online training and certification. We currently have remote exams available for our most in-demand certifications. Moving forward we plan to add more exams to that catalog. The most up-to-date list of individual exams that are available to take as a remote exam can be found on the Ways to Test page.
