An in-place upgrade is the recommended and supported way to migrate your system to the next major version of Red HatⓇ Enterprise LinuxⓇ. A fresh (or cold) install of the operating system (OS) requires a lot of post-install work to make the operating environment compatible with its previous major Red Hat Enterprise Linux version. The in-place upgrade allows you to preserve server customizations, such as IP, DNS configurations, security policies, tuned profiles, application environments, and more, while upgrading the underlying OS. The Leapp utility does extensive checks to verify both system configuration and binary compatibility between major OS versions. Once the warnings are resolved, the Leapp utility will perform the in-place upgrade for you.
In this webinar, I'll demonstrate how to:
- Prepare your system for upgrade
- Use the Leapp utility to generate a pre-installation report on possible blockers to a successful upgrade
- Use Cockpit to remediate blockers in the preinstallation report
- Execute the upgrade and verify the Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 8 and version 9 installs
