Learn how to migrate existing CentOS Linux servers to supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Course Description

  • “Managing CentOS Migrations and RHEL Upgrades” will enable customers to transition successfully from CentOS Linux to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  It also enables them to upgrade from one major version of RHEL to the next.  This course provides an overview of the migration process and discusses how to avoid and mitigate risks. “Managing CentOS Migrations and RHEL Upgrades” will help users to move from CentOS Linux to RHEL, or to upgrade to a newer version of RHEL.

Course Outline

  1. Plan the Conversion to Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    Explore why and how to convert CentOS Linux servers to RedHat Enterprise Linux, plan the conversion process, and install the required tools for conversion.

  2. Perform a Pre-conversion Analysis and Convert a Server 
    Analyze a server to identify and remediate any issues that might cause problems with conversion, and then convert it to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

  3. Verify and Troubleshoot a Converted Server 
    Confirm that a conversion to RHEL completed successfully, and troubleshoot potential problems if it did not.

  4. Perform a Conversion to RHEL by using Red Hat Satellite 
    Use Red Hat Satellite to convert a server from CentOS Linux to RHEL.

  5. Plan an In-place Upgrade of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 
    Explain when to perform an in-place upgrade of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, what upgrade paths are supported, and what to consider when planning an upgrade.

  6. Prepare a Server for an In-place Upgrade 
    Perform prerequisite steps to configure a server and to install the required software for an in-place upgrade of RHEL.

  7. Create and Review a Pre-upgrade Report 
    Ensure that a server is ready to be upgraded by running, evaluating, and addressing the results of a pre-upgrade report.

  8. Upgrade Red Hat Enterprise Linux 
    Run an in-place upgrade of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and be prepared to troubleshoot potential issues with the upgrade.

  9. Perform Post-upgrade Tasks and Verification 
    Complete the upgrade by performing final tasks and verifying that the in-place upgrade succeeded.

  • Update a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 system to Red Hat Enterprise 8 by using in-place upgrades with Leapp
