Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Manx Telecom, a data centre and global telecommunications solutions provider based on the Isle of Man, has selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform for its high-availability managed services platform. Manx Telecom expects to use the platform to power managed services such as a global online payments solution, with a view to delivering enterprise cloud computing services in the future.
Manx Telecom has used Red Hat Enterprise Linux since the inception of its hosting services division and gradually it has experienced more and more of the benefits of open source. After being approached to develop and implement a high-availability platform for a global online payment solutions provider, Manx Telecom selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform, including clustering and file system technologies.
“Having provided managed service platform solutions to the customer for over five years, we were approached to develop and implement a high-availability platform that would scale to meet the ever-changing demands on our customer's business and would be a catalyst for the delivery of new products and services across its organization,’’ said Stephen Kane, e-Gaming & e-Business Development Manager, Manx Telecom.
Since implementing Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform, Manx Telecom has achieved superior performance of its systems, enabling the company to deliver enhanced stability, resilience and flexibility of platform equipment. With this, Manx Telecom has been able to offer cost-effective, flexible solutions to its customers.
“In the telecommunications world, users expect ‘dial-tone’ reliability and a user experience that is second to none. We were impressed by Red Hat Enterprise Linux's reliability, ease-of-use and speed of applications and transactions that completely outperform the previous platform. We have also been able to realise numerous savings in terms of power, hardware support costs and backup licensing costs. The flexibility of the Red Hat subscription model has proven to be particularly important”, said Stephen Trimble, Enterprise Hosting & Solutions Technical Manager, Manx Telecom.
Manx Telecom and its customers have, together, leveraged the flexibility and manageability that Red Hat Enterprise Linux offers within a managed services environment. Many of Manx Telecom’s managed customer systems now enjoy increased application performance, enhanced platform resilience and greater flexibility. This, in turn, provides Manx Telecom’s customers with the opportunity to deliver their core business applications at an exceptionally high standard.
With Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform, Manx Telecom has delivered client projects ahead of schedule and with even greater flexibility and capacity for future growth. Going forward, this is expected to significantly reduce the cost of deployment and allow Manx Telecom to reallocate resources. The project also involved Red Hat providing Red Hat Training courses, including onsite customised training labs, as well as Red Hat Consulting services to Manx Telecom’s engineering personnel, assisting them, in turn, in delivering enhanced product support to customers.
“Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform has provided an excellent platform on which to further develop and deliver our customer's projects”, said Kane.
