Your operating system is the key to unlocking your organization's potential in the hybrid cloud. Linux® provides a platform for innovation, bolstered by the open source community. When you need to do anything in the hybrid cloud, Linux is the operating system that can do everything.
The Red Hat® Shares newsletter helps IT leaders navigate the complicated world of IT―the open source way.
FROM THE EDITOR
Is your OS engineered for hybrid cloud?
We talk a lot about hybrid cloud because we believe it’s important to the IT strategy of most enterprises. (We dedicate an entire track to it at Red Hat Summit, happening this week.) But equally significant is the foundation of your hybrid cloud―the operating system (OS).
Clouds are made up of the same interoperable technologies: OSs, virtualization software, management and automation tools, and application programming interfaces (APIs). The quality of those connections depends on the consistency, reliability, and flexibility of your OS.
In other words, the OS is a big deal for hybrid cloud.
There’s no 1-size-fits-all cloud software. Every cloud is unique. That means the foundation of your cloud needs to do everything. And the only OSs capable of that are open source, like Linux.
In this issue of Red Hat Shares: an introduction to Linux, innovation’s reliance on Linux, the massive economic effect of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, a free Linux course, customer success stories, and more.

Linux makes the exciting stuff possible
Much of enterprise IT’s excitement is focused on advancements at the application level. But as the OS most emerging enterprise apps are written on, Linux plays a critical role, too―as the reliable constant that powers these innovations.
The economic impact of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is trillions―yes, trillions―of dollars
The numbers in this IDC research even surprised us.
