IDOL프로그램은 산업표준기술을 지향하는 인텔, 델, 오라클, 레드햇, 4개사 글로벌기업이 유닉스시스템에서 표준화 서버로 마이그레이션을 원하는 고객사를 선정하여 무상 컨설팅 서비스를 제공하는 것으로, 전세계적으로 지난 4월에 출범해 범용 서버 확산 바람을 일으키고 있다.
선정된 고객사는 기업환경에 따라 필요한 시스템에 대한 평가, 분석, 안정화까지의 컨설팅 서비스를 각 참여사의 전문 컨설팅팀을 통해 받을 수 있다.
인텔과 델은 효율적인 시스템 아키텍쳐를 제안하고 인텔기반 서버에 대한 전반적인 기술을, 오라클은 데이터베이스 관련 컨설팅을, 레드햇은 리눅스 관련 컨설팅 서비스를 제공한다. 4개사는 추후 국내 프로그램을 강화해 지속적으로 고객사를 선정해 맞춤 컨설팅을 제공할 계획이다.
국내에서 첫 번째 선정된 고객사는 디지틀조선(이하 디조)이다. 디조는 지난해 델의 IA서버인 ‘델파워에지’기반에 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 를 도입해 리눅스 운영체제를 갖추었으며 비용절감과 동시에 시스템의 성능과 확장성과 안정성을 높인바 있다.
이번 무상 컨설팅은 5일 동안 워크숍의 형태로 IDOL 4개의 벤더사가 디조만을 위한 시스템을 제안, 패치를 통한 보안팁, 웹서버 성능향상을 위한 스크립팁, 리눅스 교육프로그램 등을 제공했다. 추가적으로 Red Hat GFS(Global File System)를 이용한 오라클 RAC사용제안 및 오라클 DB튜닝등도 가능해 고객의 만족도가 높다.

Dell International announced on Sep 20th that it is executing IDOL (Intel, Dell, Oracle, Linux:Red Hat) Program in order to expand Intel-based industry standard server for the first time in nation.
IDOL program is organized by four global vendors namely Intel, Dell, Oracle and Red Hat, which all aim for industry standard technology. They provide free consulting service to those chosen customers who want to migrate from UNIX system to standardized server. This program was organized last April globally, and is leading the crowd in using servers for general use.
Chosen customers are provided with consulting services given by specialized consulting teams of participating companies according to its corporate environment, from evaluation, analysis to stability of their systems.
Intel and Dell suggest efficient system architecture and provide general technology on Intel-based servers and Red Hat provides consulting on Linux. These four companies will provide customized consulting session for the chosen customers continuously, by enhancing domestic programs.
The first chosen customer is Digital Chosun which is the one of biggest news potal site in Korea. Digital Chosun deployed ‘Dell Poweredge’, which is Dell’s IA Server, with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and it is experiencing reduced costs, and at the same time, increased functioning, scalability and stability of the system.
