Red Hat Summitwww.kr.redhat.com)은 삼성생명(대표 이수창, www.samsunglife.com)이 기존에 운영해 오던 유닉스 서버를 리눅스 서버로 교체하여 성공 적으로 운영 중에 있다고 밝혔다.
한국레드햇은 2004년 삼 성생명 홈페이지 구축을 위해 레드햇 엔터프라이즈 리눅스 4버전(RHEL 4)을 공급한 것을 시작으로, 2차 구축 사업에서는 삼성생명에서 운 영 중이던 유닉스 서버를 리눅스 로 마이그레이션하는 것을 성공적으로 완료했다. 이후, 삼성생명 은 2007년 부터 중소시스템 통합을 위해 리눅스를 추가적으로 도입, 운영 중이다.
삼성생명은 현재 주요 업무 약 20여 가지에 리눅스를 사용하고 있으 며, 약 60여대의 리눅스 서버를 구축, 이를 기반으로 삼성생명 홈페이지 및 유관 사이트를 안정적으로 구 동하고 있다.
최근 IDC 보고에 의 하면, 상 위 50개 ISV 업 체 중 85% 이 상의 업체가 “기업용 솔루션에 있어서 엔터프 라이즈 리눅스가 뛰어난 퍼포먼스, 보안성, 안정적이 고 강력한 환경을 제공함으로써 이 제는 기업의 수요가 엔터프라이즈 리 눅스로 몰릴 것이라고 예측한다”고 보고한 바와 같이 삼성생명 도 우리나라 제 1의 생명보험 사로서 IDC가 예측한 기술적 경향과 일관된 사례라 볼 수 있다.

삼성생명 IT 지원팀의 윤 상호 부장은 “하드웨어 종속성 탈피, 기존 환경과의 호환성을 도모하기 위해 리눅스 도입을 고려했다. 기존 유닉스 서버에서 리눅스로 마이 그레이션을 함으로써 높은 호환성을 획득, 기존 장비 및 자원을 보다 효율적으로 활용할 수 있게 되었고 이를 통해 간접적으 로 비용 절감 효과까지 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 오픈 플랫폼의 유연성을 통해 사용자의 다양한 요구에 신속히 대응할 수 있었다.”라고 교체 배경을 밝히며 “앞으로도 레 드햇 RHEL과 같이 비용 대비 안정성이 검증된 오프소스 소프 트웨어 도입을 확대할 계획이다”라고 말했다.
