オープンソース・ソリューションのプロバイダーとして世界をリードするレッドハット株式会社（東京都渋谷区、代表取締役社長、岡 玄樹、以下レッドハット）は本日、日本電気株式会社（以下NEC）と協業し、業界トップクラスのエンタープライズKubernetesプラットフォームであるRed Hat OpenShift上に構築された5Gソリューションの提供を発表しました。Red Hat OpenShift上で動作するNECの5Gコアネットワーク・ソリューションによって、5Gコア、5G無線アクセスネットワーク（RAN）、エッジ・コンピューティング、人工知能、機械学習などを含む広範囲のユースケースで5Gの利用が可能になり、新しい収益機会の創出に役立ちます。
レッドハットとの協業を通じて、要求が強まるグローバル5G市場、特にクラウドネイティブの最前線でCSPやDSPの競争力維持に貢献できることを嬉しく思います。長年にわたって継続しているレッドハットとのパートナーシップを通して、5Gクラウドネイティブ・ネットワーク機能に対する認知と採用を拡大する上で極めて大きな可能性を持つオープンな業界標準の構築に向けた作業を進めています。NECの5Gソリューションは、レッドハットのクラウドネイティブ・ソリューションとの統合によって、非常に効率的で信頼性の高いネットワーク体験をお客様に提供します。
ITおよびネットワーキング・ソリューションの世界的リーダーであるNECとレッドハットは、Red Hat OpenStack Platformを使用したネットワーク機能仮想化（NFV）システム・インテグレーションを主眼とするオープンソース・ソフトウェアの共同開発で長年にわたり協業してきました。今回の発表で、将来の5Gをクラウドネイティブの原則の上に構築することを目指す通信サービスプロバイダー（CSP）やデジタル・サービスプロバイダー（DSP）は、レッドハットおよびNECと協力してローカルおよびプライベート5Gを推進し、それぞれの環境向けに強化された、より一貫性のある水平型クラウド・プラットフォームを採用できるようになります。
この新しいクラウドネイティブ・ネットワーク機能（CNF）のインフラストラクチャは、複数の使用例に対応する共通のTelcoクラウド・インフラストラクチャをサービスプロバイダーに提供し、管理と運用の経費削減に貢献します。また、レッドハットの出資によるACG Researchのレポートによると、サイロ化された、垂直統合型の5Gエッジおよび仮想RAN（vRAN）よりも総所有コスト（TCO）を最大30%低減可能な、オープンで水平型のプラットフォームの利点も実現できます。
強力なエコシステムがイノベーションを推進
強力なネットワークエコシステムは5Gの成功にとって極めて重要な要素であり、レッドハットはその必要性を認識しています。レッドハットは、各種CNFとRed Hat OpenShiftとのCNF相互運用性の検証または認定を提供し、パートナーがアプリケーションをクラウドネイティブな環境に対応させ、5Gとクラウド・コンピューティングの大規模採用へより迅速に、また競合優位性を自社の顧客に提供するためのお手伝いをします。
NECはこの機会を利用して、Red Hat OpenShift上で同社の5GコアCNFの検証を実施し、年内に包括的な認定を完了する予定です。これによって、NECは新しい収益源を探し求める事業者に、より高いスケーラビリティ、柔軟性、および強化されたセキュリティを提供できます。さらに、レッドハットはUniversal Base Image（UBI）のサポート可能な基盤で作成された5G CNFが、サービスプロバイダーが顧客に5Gソリューションを提供する際のリスクを低減し、安定性の向上と開発期間の短縮につながることを保証します。
