Organizations need to move fast and with agility to remain competitive and stay ahead of the market. And part of this includes leveraging edge computing alongside artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML).  By extending AI capabilities to the edge, organizations can better collect data, digest images, train models based on trends and run inferencing for better real-time responses, offline functionality and security of sensitive information.

With AI and edge, companies can process large volumes of data  faster and without transmitting every bit of raw data, live to a central cloud. AI/ML at the edge opens many doors - helping factories predict equipment failure before it happens, keep ship operations running when at sea and disconnected from shore internet, or helping retail shops  show evolving offers to customers in real-time. But to make this happen,  you need the platform and the infrastructure to deliver it.

With this in mind, we’re pleased to announce that Red Hat Device Edge on NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ and  NVIDIA IGX Orin™ is now available in tech preview for testing. Red Hat Device Edge provides the necessary capacities for inferencing in resource-constrained environments as the need for small, lightweight form-factor and low-power consuming devices is on the rise.  Red Hat Device Edge provides the platform to bring applications from inside the data center out to the edge. This means that familiar tools and processes that teams are using in their cloud - can be used at the edge. This reduces the strain on staff, allows for remote deployments where there may not be any staff, and allows applications to be written once - but run anywhere - from core to cloud to edge. The NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ and NVIDIA IGX Orin™ line of devices provides an extended range of solutions to these demands, from the very low power Jetson Orin nano all the way up to the IGX platform and its optional dGPU for training at the far edge*.

Customers with a Jetson Orin Nano, NX, AGX or IGX can now install Red Hat Device Edge and enjoy all the benefits of our tested, trusted operating system, manage it with ansible and even try Red Hat’s build of MicroShift, our Kubernetes platform for edge devices. Also included in tech preview is:

  • iGPU
  • Full GUI (X11) support
  • USB cameras support
  • GPU-accelerated NVIDIA NGC containers support
